MEET Municipal energy decision-makers from south africa
The U.S. Trade and Development Agency will be hosting two events to help you get connected with the delegation.
Background INformation
Both events will include key South African energy decision-makers across major municipalities who are seeking information on U.S. technologies, services, and best practices to self-generate or procure energy directly from Independent Power Producers (IPPs).
In 2020, the Government of South Africa announced changes to legislation that now allow South African municipalities to procure electricity directly from IPPs, instead of purchasing entirely from Eskom, the country’s public utility, as they were previously required to do. At least ten cities and municipalities across the country are exploring these options, presenting a unique opportunity for U.S. companies to export their solutions in support of South African municipalities’ energy needs in the areas of generation, mini-grids, and energy storage.
Goals include:
Promoting energy security across South Africa’s municipalities
Sharing best practices in IPP procurement
Improving municipal management of the energy across generation, transmission, and storage
